100 TO 1 - BACK TO REALITY

How are you feeling about returning to work?

How are you feeling about returning to work?

I’ve asked this question to a number of different people over the past couple weeks, most of whom responded with ‘yeah looking forward to getting out the house’ or ‘I’m getting bored of Netflix’, or my favourite ‘I can’t wait to get back on the wifi at work’

But this was so far from my reality; which got me thinking why? Why aren’t I excited? Why aren’t I relaxed? And the wifi at my house is shocking so why aren’t I looking forward to getting back on the wifi at work?

I had a conversation with my sister and she said that “you’re in a very different position - you’ve got to think about staff, debts, revenue, COVID, etc. at my new job I just turn up, work and go home.”

She hit the nail on the head. The uncertainty around all of those things has made me feel quite anxious over the past couple of weeks. On top of that just the thought of returning to my old working habits is overwhelming.

When I’m having these anxious moments, I do my best to remind myself that no1 knows what’s going to happen which means that the possibilities for the future are limitless.

I’m someone who believes that everything happens for a reason. Every problem I’ve encountered has been a lesson for me to learn and everything that didn’t go my way was a blessing in disguise. This being said, I can’t shake this feeling there’s got to be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow otherwise all of this was nothing.

I’ve always been a go hard or go home kind of guy but if i’m honest right now I feel like going home. My team on the other hand are ready to hit the ground running. It was their idea to start coming into the office. So we’ve been meeting up 3 days week to give ourselves a headstart, knowing that I’ve got the support and commitment of my team has definitely eased my anxiety somewhat.

On this occasion, the team led by example and I’m going to follow suit. We’re investing heavily in Marketing, making the necessary COVID changes, taking care of a few repairs and bracing for impact.

If in a years time I can add a global pandemic to the list of business obstacles that I’m overcome, then it would seem as though I’m doing an OK job at that this CEO thing - but that trophy definitely goes to the team!
